I've had a Champion juicer, essentially this same
model, for about fifteen years. How's it work? It's a workhorse:
Basically a huge electric motor, and you attach the masticator (a system
of grinding blades) to the axle / shaft that comes out of the motor.
There's a cover that goes over that, a wooden push-rod, and at the
bottom, a screen that slides in place under a cover. The screen can be
fine, or coarser. It goes and goes. This isn't one of the centrifugal
juicers that produces ultra-fine juice; what this does it make it
possible to process 150 pounds of tomatoes into juice and pulp (the pulp
has to go into a handy bowl, the juice into another -- a little
awkward, but you figure it out). My family and I then take the juice and
put it onto the stove and cook it down to sauce. Handy, indeed.
